UK weather: Temperatures to hit 23C by VE Day with blazing sunshine next week

Britain looks set to leave the rainy weather behind this week, swapping it for blazing sun and highs of 23C at the peak.

The last week has seen grim weather, with cooler temperatures as well as heavy rain and clouds.

But the outlook looks set to be brighter and more spring-like next week, ending in a toasty 23C on Friday for the bank holiday, according to BBC weather.

The week will begin with a dry, sunny Monday, setting a trend for the week ahead.

Temperatures will peak on Thursday, the day before bank holiday Friday for VE Day.

The day celebrates the Allies formally accepting Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender from World War II in 1945.

The week ahead marks the UK’s seventh week in lockdown because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The glorious weather may present yet another temptation to break lockdown rules, but Brits must follow government measures to stay indoors and socially distance.

The Met Office outlook:

This evening and tonight:

It’s going to be cloudy in the south and east this evening, leading into tonight, while the north-east and south-east Scotland will see outbreaks of rain, some extensive. The north-west will see clearer spells and there may be a ground frost overnight.

Monday:

It’s going to be a fairly pleasant start to the week on Monday, with mostly dry and sunny spells in the west while the south will get some fresh, easterly winds. The east won’t be so lucky with some rain and scattered showers.

Tuesday to Thursday:

It’s set to be mostly dry with sunny spells on the lead up to a warm VE Day. Tuesday will see grim weather in parts of the country, with outbreaks of rain and thunder in the south. There will be some showers on Wednesday and Thursday but those days will mostly be dry and sunny.
