Friday could see temperatures peak at a blistering 30C as the UK basks in hottest heatwave of the year so far.

And Saturday could be equally as hot with forecasters predicting the mercury will continue to hover around the 30C mark.

Sunday will should see a dramatic drop in temperatures averaging around 20C.

Overnight  the mercury is not expected to dip below  13C which could make it hard for people to sleep.

The NHS has issued a level two heat health alert for the South West for Friday.

It reads: "Very warm or hot conditions are expected in the west of the country over the next few days, with these warmer conditions moving eastwards into the weekend.

"Cooler conditions are then expected from Sunday onwards. Trigger criteria are most likely to be met in southern areas between Friday and Saturday.

"Heatwaves can be dangerous, especially for the very young or very old or those with chronic disease.

"Advice on how to reduce the risk either for yourself or somebody you know can be obtained from NHS Choices, NHS 111 or from your local chemist."
