UK weather: Temperatures continue to rise as Britain is forecast to be hotter than Spain this weekend

Temperatures are due to keep rising this weekend as the UK becomes hotter than Barcelona, with temperatures reaching a 25C in some areas.

Cities across the north and south of England will reach 23C on Saturday and 25C on Sunday afternoon according to Met Office forecasts, with Barcelona and Majorca experiencing highs of only 17-21C across the whole weekend. 

High temperatures across Wales are also forecast, with highs of 21C in Cardiff, and 17C in Bangor on Sunday.

Temperatures will vary across Scotland, but will be mostly warm, with Glasgow temperatures forecast to reach 20C. Edinburgh and other northern are expected to reach 12C and 13C.

Most or Northern Ireland will be warm but cloudy, with the sun set to begin shining on Monday. Belfast will see Sunday’s temperatures reach 19C.

The sunny spells will be punctuated by thunderstorms, which are predicted in parts of the UK from Saturday through to Monday, with several weather warnings having been issued. Heavy rain, some lightening and small hailstones should be expected.
