UK weather: Strong winds as yellow warnings issued

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for some parts of the UK today (January 11).

Heavy rain and strong winds are expected across northern parts of the country, potentially causing travel issues, it has been warmed.

In the South West, including Bristol, there will also be winds, but the region will remain dry.

On the South West, a spokesman said: "[It will be] a dry and breezy day.

"Remaining cloudy, but there could be some brighter interludes at times."

Bristol itself will be mild for this time of year, with the temperature expected to be 11 degrees for most of the day.

Gusts up to 37 mph are tipped to buffet the city, though.

The skies are likely to be cloudy throughout the afternoon, but the chance of rain has been placed at just 10 per cent.
