UK weather: Storm Edouard to bring heavy rain before 'seven-day 30C heatwave'

Tropical Storm Edouard is set to lash Britain with heavy rain before a possible 30C heatwave arrives.

The rampaging cyclone is currently churning through the Atlantic Ocean and is set to reach the UK by Thursday.

But don't despair because next week could see Britain bake in 30C highs, according to some forecasters.

Netweather weather charts show temperatures hitting 26C between next Sunday and July 20 but the forecaster has also indicated 30C is possible in the south.

BBC weather maps suggest highs of 24C in London by Tuesday with the south set to see several days of warm and dry weather.

And the Met Office's long range forecast states: "Temperatures are likely to be either around or on the warmer side of average, with the warmest conditions likely in the southeast."

BBC meteorologist Chris Fawkes, meanwhile, said "two lumps of cloud" are set to bring rain for today (Wednesday) before Edouard arrives, with "no sign of the weather settling down just yet".

Mr Fawkes said the rain will become "a little more confined to the south" on Wednesday and will continue "in pulses - light one minute and then a bit heavier".

Then Edouard - who will be considerably less energised by the time he reaches Britain - "will bring more rain".

Heavy rain is expected to batter Bristol for most of today. It will also feel cooler with highs of 17C expected.

UK weather forecast

Wednesday:

Mostly cloudy with rain at times across the southern half of the UK. Drier and brighter further north, but isolated showers possible over inland parts of Scotland and northern England.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Across central and southern areas cloudy with rain on Thursday, while bright with showers in the north. Further showers in the north on Friday, otherwise widely dry and bright.
