UK weather: Storm Dennis to bring month's worth of rain and 80mph gales

Storm Dennis could bring severe gales and a month's worth of rain to many parts of the country this weekend.

Most of the UK has been covered by yellow Met Office warnings for rain and wind, with gales expected to range between 50mph and 80mph.

Small areas of amber warnings have also been dotted around the UK, including one in Newport - just 30 miles away from Bristol.

Travel is likely to be disrupted in affected areas and motorists will face dangerous driving conditions, Mirror Online reports.

There's also a good chance communities will be cut off by flooded roads.

The weather warnings in place on Saturday (Met Office)

The Met Office said: "Spells of heavy and prolonged rain are expected to affect parts of England and Wales over the weekend with a higher likelihood of impacts now expected in some areas.

"Around 20-40mm of rain will fall widely with 50-80mm likely across parts of northern and southern England.

"Over the higher ground of Wales 100-120mm of rain is possible in a few locations.

"This rain is expected to fall across areas already wet from recent rainfall."

In Bristol, residents will wake up today (February 15) to heavy rain from around 8am, which will last throughout the entire day.

It's a similar story on Sunday, with the heavy rain clearing at around 3pm in the afternoon.

UK weather forecast

Saturday:

Storm Dennis bringing rain and gales, locally severe, to all parts by late morning. Heaviest rainfall expected on western upslopes.

Some disruption from flooding and strong winds to be expected.

Sunday to Tuesday:

Storm Dennis bringing further wet and windy weather on Sunday. Turning colder next week with sunny spells and blustery showers, heaviest and most frequent in the north and west.
