UK Weather: Spring-like temperatures will see the New Year in, according to latest forecasts

Brits will be seeing the New Year in with spring-like temperatures according to the latest weather forecasts.

Temperatures could hit as high as 15C next week - a figure not often seen in the UK until at least April.

Warm air will be drawn in from the south due to a spell of high pressure, the Mirror reports.

The UK is expected to be hotter than usually more sunny climes including Greece and Italy.

On Sunday Athens will only reach 7C and Rome 9C while parts of North Wales and the North East will see double figures, according to the Met Office.

The milder spell will bring some much-needed New Year cheer after a rather wet Christmas for most.

However 34 flood warnings remain in place across the UK as further rain is predicted in some areas.

Yesterday drivers suffered massive delays after surface water shut the A35, A39 and A377 in Devon.

Roads in Norfolk, Buckinghamshire and Cambridgeshire were also closed.

In Puddletown, Dorset, cars were stranded when the River Piddle burst its banks, while around 50 homes were hit by a burst water main in Milton Keynes, Bucks.

But things are set to improve next year with high pressure bringing a warmer start to 2020.

On February 25 this year temperatures in parts of the UK topped a record 20C during a freak winter heatwave.
