UK weather: Snow falling near Bristol as Arctic blast heads this way

A cold snap is heading this way and bringing with it a dusting of snow in places.

Parts of the Cotswolds are seeing a touch of the white stuff tonight as the predicted cold blast arrives to put an end to the Spring sunshine we have enjoyed of late.

After a day of sunshine and showers, we have had reports that snow has started to fall on higher ground around Stroud, reports Gloucestershire Live.

Police warn they could crush mopeds as fears grow over ‘dangerous’ riding in Bristol

However those who have seen the flurries have dashed hopes of a snow day ahead of the Easter holidays by saying the flakes are melting as soon as they hit the ground.

It comes as forecasters warn colder conditions -including some parts of the UK witnessing snow - is likely to hit later this week as well.

Bristol should escape the worst of the latest cold snap. as the mercury is expected to hover around 10C during the day and 2C overnight.

While mountainous areas of Scotland may see snow and other areas could witness frost at night, according to the Mirror.

Met Office forecaster Craig Snell said : "It's really a week of April showers, a mix of rain and some snow on the high ground and some hail.

"It's going to be a very different week to the week just gone."

Arctic winds are sweeping in from the north-west to bring wintry conditions to Gloucestershire as the recent mild weather is turned on its head.

Earlier in the day there were reports of hailstones across the county, with the Forest of Dean being one of the areas pelted on Tuesday morning.

Tomorrow is predicted to be cold, with sunny spells and scattered showers with the possibility of thunder and hill snow and coastal gales.
