UK weather: Seven-day mini heatwave kicks off with 25C scorcher

Temperatures soared to 26C yesterday as a week-long heatwave swept across the UK.

Nearly the whole country will enjoy a sunny day on Friday, although peak temperatures will dip slightly to 22C.

Wall to wall sunshine is predicted throughout the weekend, with the mercury staying at 22C on Saturday, before shooting up to 26C on Sunday.

Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: “It turns warmer and humid as the remnants of Dorian and Gabrielle feed tropical air to the UK.

“It turns warmer still at the weekend and early next week with high pressure, with 25C possible in the south.”

Sadly, in Bristol we will miss out on the warmest weather as the mercury is set to hover around 20C throughout the weekend.

But it will be fine and bright for most of the weekend.

Friday and Saturday are expected to be lovely sunny days with less than five per cent chance of any showers.

Sunday looks set to be more cloudy for us here in Bristol but temperatures will stay around 19C and won't dip below 14C according to the latest forecast.

Met Office forecast

Friday:

A chilly start, and cloudy in the far south of England, but clearing quickly to leave warm sunny spells across the UK. Mainly dry, except some showers in northwest Scotland.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

A sunny and warm weekend for most, but cold at night. However, wet and windy in the north with strong winds. Monday cloudy with some rain, brighter in the north.
