UK weather: Rainy end to week as Storm Edouard arrives

The UK faces a rainy end to the week as Storm Edouard arrives before increasingly warm weather over the weekend.

It will be mostly cloudy and muggy with rain or drizzle at times on Thursday, the Met Office said, while Scotland will be brighter with a few sharp showers breaking out.

Patchy rain, drizzle and low cloud should clear from England and Wales overnight, with clear spells in the north and west.

However some showery rain is expected for parts of Scotland and northern England.

Friday will see a mix of sunny spells and showers.

They will be heavy in the east with a risk of thunder, though western areas will see fewer areas and more sunshine.

It will also feel fresher in the south.

Fine, dry and settled weather is forecast over the weekend, though will become less so across the north from Sunday as some rain arrives and spreads slowly south-east.

It will feel increasingly warm, especially in the south, but will be chilly overnight at first.

The next couple of weeks are expected to be mostly dry and settled, especially in the south of the UK, though spells of rain and strong winds may affect the north and northwest at times.

The unsettled conditions could spread to other areas of the UK later in the period, but widespread unsettled conditions are considered unlikely.

It may become warmer for a time in the south and perhaps very warm in the southeast, though temperatures are predicted to be mostly around normal for the time of year.

Conditions may start to move towards more generally settled weather for most areas towards the end of the period, but with the possibility of the occasional bout of wetter weather, the Met Office said.
