UK weather: October washout continues with more downpours

Heavy downpours and gale-force winds are set to batter most of the UK this week.

Experts are predicting some bright spells in places but they'll be heavy rain showers scattered across the country.

Meteorologists have warned of a complete washout this weekend with a huge Atlantic wet weather system currently heading towards Britain.

BBC Weather forecaster Louise Lear told the Express this would bring a spell of “more wet and windy weather”.

She said: "As we move Thursday into Friday, we are going to see this ribbon, this weather front, bringing pulse of wet weather for a time, particularly for the north on Thursday, Friday.

“So northern and western areas could see a spell of more heavy, persistent rain. Further south and east it should be a little bit drier and brighter.

“But, then as we move towards the weekend, it does look as though there is a spell of more wet and windy weather moving its way across the country. The detail at the moment of where is a little uncertain."

In Bristol, Wednesday wet weather will plague the city for most of the day. Things should get drier on Friday before more downpours lash the area on Friday.

Met Office forecast

Wednesday:

Windy with a mixture of sunny spells and showers. Western UK can expect the heaviest and most frequent showers whilst parts of eastern England and eastern Scotland may stay dry.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Staying unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain for all areas. Only limited amounts of drier and brighter weather. Windy at times, particularly on Friday. Temperatures close to average.
