UK weather: More scorching sunshine as nation braces for near-30C heat blast this week

Conditions are expected to be fine and dry throughout the week, due to an area of high pressure across the country.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Paul Gundersen, said that there will be a split between the west and the east of the UK, with the latter staying cooler than average, and the west set to experience plenty of sunshine.

He said: “As with last week, the sunniest and warmest weather will be to the west of the UK with cooler, cloudier conditions persisting in the east for the next few days. The cloud will push inland across the country overnight, burning back to the east coast by day.

“Cloud amounts may vary day to day which will affect the feel of the weather in some areas. There is a small risk of an isolated shower across northern areas on Wednesday.”

It has been indicated that the centre of the high pressure could move to the east as the week draws on.

This would lead to south easterly winds bringing warm air in from the continent, which in turn would push temperatures up into the mid-to high twenties in some places.

UK weather forecast:

Today:

Cloud cover will slowly burn back to the east, leaving a warm and sunny day for many, but some places may remain grey and chilly, especially in the east. The west can expect the most sunshine, with warm temperatures.

Later in the evening, thick, low cloud will build back in from the east, affecting much of central and eastern England, with patchy mist and fog in places. Scotland can expect cloud and drizzle. Far western areas will remain clear. It will be breezy in the far south.

Tomorrow:

The east and north will see low cloud moving in at times, but with sunny spells too. A chance of a few light showers in mainland Scotland. Elsewhere, it will be mostly sunny and dry.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Sunny spells and variable cloud will move in at times on Thursday, which will still mostly affect eastern and northern areas, with a few spots of light rain in the far north. It will be mostly settled, with the sunniest skies in the west.

Temperatures will be chilliest along eastern coasts (PA)

Temperatures will be very warm in the sun. It will be chilly along eastern coasts, with conditions turning increasingly breezy in the south.

Sunshine is expected on Friday, with cloud only affecting north-eastern areas. There is a chance of the odd shower in the far south-west. It will continue to be windy in the south. A warm few days expected.

Cloud and showers for the south-west on Saturday, but staying drier and brighter further north and east till the evening.
