UK weather: Met Office forecasts more downpours as temperatures begin to rise

More downpours and strong winds are expected to batter parts of the UK today (Sunday, June 7) but temperatures will begin to rise.

Experts at the Met Office say Sunday's weather will improve a little, but a 'chilly wind' will still make it feel cold.

There will be a further scattering of showers particularly in the East where a few could still be heavy giving local hail and perhaps thunder.

Top temperatures 12 to 16C in the North and 17 or 18C locally 19C in the South.

This is a drastic drop from the highs of 28C at the end of May - which the Met Office said was the sunniest month on record.

A spokesperson tweeted: "With 266 hours of bright sunshine, May 2020 is now officially the sunniest month on record for the UK.

"Spring 2020 is also the sunniest on record for the UK exceeding the sunshine amount for most summer seasons."

Today will be cloudy across Bristol, however there is 40 per cent chance of rain at 4pm. And Bristol will bask in some of the warmest temperatures in the country, as highs of 18C are predicted.

UK weather forecast

Sunday:

Rain for northern and eastern parts, this gradually moving south during the day. Cool here with strong winds. Western parts faring best with some sunny spells - mostly dry here.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Most dry with sunny spells on Monday and feeling warmer. Rain will spread into Scotland and Northern Ireland Tuesday then likely become widespread and locally heavy on Wednesday.
