UK weather: Met Office warns of 'very hot' weather as highs of 36C predicted

Brace yourself for another few days of sweltering heat as highs of 36C are predicted.

Temperatures will be begin to climb from Wednesday as people make a dash for the area's wild swimming spots and beaches.

Experts say the mercury will creep up to the mid-20s on Wednesday, before the thermometer peaks at a sweltering 36C on Friday.

The Met Office has also issued a rare Level Two heat warning, which is in place between Thursday to Sunday for the south east of England.

Alerts are triggered as soon as the risk is 60% or above for threshold temperatures being reached in one or more regions, on at least two consecutive days.

Advice on how to reduce the risk either for yourself or somebody you know can be obtained from the Heatwave Plan for England page, from your doctor or local chemist, or ring NHS 111.

Met Office forecaster Craig Snell told the Mirror Online, as the week goes on "temperatures will gradually climb" - with Thursday to hit 30C.

He added Friday is expected to reach 35 or 36C - "way above the average for the time of year".

Last Friday saw highs of 37.8C in Greater London - one of the hottest days ever recorded in Britain.

Temperatures will rise to a balmy 23C in Bristol today, with the hottest weather predicted around 3pm.
