UK weather: Met Office says Christmas Day to be bright and dry

It's Christmas Day - so leap out of bed, fling open the curtains and embrace the wonderful sight of...

Well, not snow... But the second best outcome, which is a fine and dry morning.

Forecasters at the Met Office reckon it will be a sunny morning for Bristol, with a very low chance of rain.

As we progress into the afternoon in the city, it is likely to become cloudy - but rain should remain unlikely.

The top gust of the day is tipped to be 22mph, but that's not until 11pm.

So it should be a calm Christmas Day - weather-wise, at least - with the temperature knocking about the 3-7 degree region.

The Met Office summary for the whole of the UK states: "A fine Christmas Day for most after a cold start with fog patches slow to clear.

"Any showers in the north dying out. Cloudier and windier later in the west."

The last time the British Isles experienced a proper white Christmas was 2010 - just as we did the year before (2009).

Technically, though, the most recent white Christmas was 2017, when 11 per cent of weather stations recorded snow falling. None of the station reported snow lying on the ground, though.
