UK weather: Met Office on 'exact time' thunderstorms will strike Bristol

Thunderstorms are forecast for Bristol as the Met Office warns of a weather shift bringing a week of wet weather to the UK.

September has been unseasonably warm for many but as October looms, so does autumn, and the type of weather you'd expect to see at this time of the year.

Temperatures have reached 25C in some parts of the UK this weekend but Met Office weather maps show a band of heavy rain will move across all but Eastern England from this evening.

Downpours and squally winds are also expected for the South West overnight, with much cooler temperatures expected widely from tomorrow.

Bristol has seen highs of 21C today, but the mercury is expected to dip to 17C tomorrow and an even chillier 16 on Tuesday (September 28).

As it stands, the Met Office forecasts thunderstorms will arrive at 1pm on Tuesday, when there is an 80 per cent chance of heavy rain.

Temperatures will drop further to a predicted maximum of 15C on Wednesday, with the mercury expected to climb back up to 17C on Thursday, when downpours are expected to resume.

Friday is likely to be overcast with sunny spells and showers, but Saturday is expected to be drier.

Nicola Maxey, Met Office spokesperson, also said a cold front will bring “potentially heavy rain”, the Express reports.

The forecasting service's latest precipitation charts reveal large parts of England turning red and yellow as rain batters the UK.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain in parts of Northern Scotland with forecasters warning it will be a dull and damp start to Monday with cloudy skies.

Ms Maxey added: “Hail and thunder is also a risk to the North and West, so Monday heralds a real change to autumnal-style weather.”

Netweather forecaster Nick Finnis said the majority of the rain should clear by 12pm tomorrow.
