UK weather: Met Office issues yellow weather warning for rain

It's going to be a rather wet start to the week for most areas across the country.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain mostly to the west of areas badly affected last week.

The warning has been issued due to the ground remaining very wet and that predicted frequent heavy showers are likely to cause some flooding.

The warning is in place in parts of north Derbyshire and South Yorkshire from the early hours of Monday until midday on Tuesday.

The rain is expected to clear eastwards, then sunny intervals and occasional blustery showers, which will merge into longer spells of rain over the far north and northwest of Scotland.

Temperatures will stay cold throughout the week, so it's probably time to get out the winter coat, hats, scarfs and gloves.

Further rain or showers are predicted on Tuesday, before more persistent rain and hill snow spread east through Wednesday.

Wednesday and Thursday could be windy in some places, and there is another yellow weather warning for rain in place for the East Midlands.

Not a huge amount of rain is expected to fall, but there could be problems because of the amount of rainfall the area has experienced recently.
