UK weather: Met Office issues yellow warnings for heavy rain and wind

The Met Office has issued two weather warnings for Bristol this weekend.

Starting tomorrow (February 28), a yellow weather warning for rain has been issued for the Bristol area, which means there could be some localised flooding and issues with transport.

This weather warning is in place between 3am tomorrow (February 28) and 6am on Saturday.

As a result of this, First Bus services in the city could be affected and train cancellations and delays could be possible from Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway station.

Potential spray and flooding on roads could make journey times longer if you are travelling by car on Saturday.

The Met Office has also issued a separate yellow weather warning for strong winds across Bristol on Saturday. This will be in place from 12pm until midday the following day (March 1).

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Gusts of 50-60 mph are likely quite widely, and especially in association with heavier showers across England and Wales during Saturday afternoon. More isolated gusts of 65-70 mph, particularly on coasts and other exposed areas, are probable.

"The spell of strong winds is expected to move northeast across a large swathe of the south west throughout the weekend."

As a result of the strong winds, some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely.

This means the winds may affect flights flying to and from Bristol Airport and could cause disruption and cancellation to train services running to and from Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway.

With strong winds, also comes the prospect for exposed bridges, such as the M48 Severn Bridge to close.

It's also likely sea communities such as Weston-super-Mare may be affected by spray and large waves as a result of the heavy wind.
