UK weather: Met Office issues snow and ice warnings as another cold snap hits

The Met Office has issued four yellow weather warnings for 'dangerous' snow and ice in parts of the UK - but Bristol will escape the plummeting temperatures.

Four alerts are in place for Monday, January 27 covering Scotland, northern England and Ireland, with three running until 10am and the last ending at 11.59pm.

People are being warned of potential travel disruption, as well as injuries from slips and falls.

Met Office national morning forecast for January 27

In Scotland, residents are being told to brace for snow and icy patches.

The Met Office's warning reads: "Falling snow will reach low levels away from the western coastal fringes by dawn.

"Some spots may see accumulations of 1-3cm below 150m, with more widely 5-10cm above 150m and 15cm above 300m.

"Strong winds may also bring temporary blizzard conditions in association with the showers."

Most of Northern Ireland will be hit with ice this morning, but temperatures should begin to rise by 11am.

Bristol is set to escape the worst of the weather, with residents waking to a dry and bright morning. The mercury should climb to 8C during the afternoon.

Experts are predicting another clear day on Tuesday before rain moves in towards the end of the week.

UK weather forecast

Monday:
