UK weather: Met Office issues more heavy rain warnings - but dry cold snap coming

The Met Office has issues more heavy rain warnings across the UK over the next few days.

Sunday will see blustery showers and rain moving northeast across the country while there will be some persistent rain in Northern Ireland and southeast England.

It will be windy across the UK especially in the south which will experience gales across the coast.

London and the southwest will also be windy but the wind will ease in Scotland.

A yellow weather warning for rain is in place in Northern Ireland between 10am and 5pm.

While an identical warning for wind affects the south and south west of England until 8pm on Sunday.

However, the wet weather is expected to soon make way for a cold snap which will usher in a dry spell.

A Met Office forecaster said: "It's windy until Wednesday, with heavy rain in the West.
"After Wednesday, the risk of frost increases and temperatures look to become colder. The chance of wintry showers increases into December."

The UK will experience a dry start on Monday but there will be persistent rain and showers in the far north.

It will be windy but mild throughout the day and further rain will arrive in the afternoon and evening.

Heavy rain has also been predicted for Tuesday in the northwest of England but the rest of the UK will be mainly dry, bright and very mild.

However the weather will become more unsettled and colder from Wednesday with rain and blustery showers.

Ex-BBC forecaster Michael Fish of Netweather said: "The next week could be described in various ways - including 'just pants."

The Environment Agency has released some guidelines to help those who live in a flood risk area.

These include using a postcode checker to evaluate your risk and looking out for flood warnings.

Residents are also encouraged to prepare a bag that includes medicines and insurance documents in case they need to leave their house.

In case of immediate danger, the Environment Agency urges people to call 999.
