UK weather: Met Office issues 18-hour weather warning for South West

The Met Office has issued an 18-hour weather warning for rain across the South West of England.

The alert comes as torrential rain and strong gusts of wind are set to batter the country as Halloween looms.

Flooding and spray on roads is expected in areas of Somerset gripped by the warning, but areas of Bristol and Gloucestershire could still see 60 hours of rain before November begins.

Areas of Somerset covered by the yellow warning for rain include Wellington, Minehead, Chard and a small part of Taunton.

Bristol is not included in the weather warning area, but prolonged rain is still predicted.

The weather warning spans from as far as St Austell, Cornwall in the west, to Taunton and Axminster in the east, including everything in between.

The 18-hour weather warning for rain comes into place from 3pm this afternoon (Thursday, October 28) and will be in force until 9am tomorrow morning (Friday, October 29).

There is expected to be disruption to travel across the South West with longer journey times to be expected for many commuters.
