UK weather: Met Office issue wind warning for this weekend - what to expect

A Met Office weather warning for strong winds has been put in place for a lot of the South West.

The yellow warning currently encompasses Cornwall, Devon and Somerset stopping just shy of Bristol but this could change over the weekend.

Severe gales are expected and may cause some disruption.

A deep area of low pressure is expected from the west and winds are expected to reach 50-60mph inland and 70mph on the coast.

The warning is in place from 3pm on Sunday (December 8) to 9am Monday (December 9).

There are likely to be some delays to road and rail travel as well as some short term loss of power for badly affected areas.

Coastal areas can expect large waves and temporary structures are at risk of damage.

The Met Office has forecast cloudy weather for Saturday, changing to heavy rain by nighttime, with highs of 11C and lows of 9C.

On Sunday we should see highs of 10C and lows of 8C.
