Liverpool weather: Met Office issues warning as storms set to batter city

The Met Office has issued a thunderstorm warning across large parts of the UK, including Liverpool.

The yellow alert runs from 12pm to 10pm on Saturday - and warns heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause transport disruption and flooding.

While forecasters predict 'many places' will miss the worst, the outlook will come as another blow to predictions made earlier this month the UK could see "summer-like" weather towards the end of August.

The Met Office predict that the heavy downpour will affect driving conditions - which could lead to longer journey times.

It also expects delays to train services and loss of power due to lightning strikes.

The forecast also warned: "Flooding of a few homes and businesses could occur."

The Met Office forecast for Liverpool tomorrow states: "Wet start to Saturday with rainy conditions persisting through the day. Heaviest rain expected in northern locations through the afternoon. Winds becoming light. Maximum temperature 19 °C.
