UK weather: Met Office has its say on whether it will snow this month

Met Office forecasters have had their say on reports the UK could be facing its harshest winter for years.

And it seems despite claims us Brits could soon be facing plunging temperatures and inches of snow, it may still be a bit early to pull those winter woollies out, Birmingham Live reports.

Some forecasts say the UK could see snow as early as this month with widespread hard frosts predicted.

A MirrorOnline report quotes Exacta Weather forecaster James Madden who warns of 'snow after snow' with the first flakes coming this month.

He said: "October is now looking like it will turn out to be colder than average with more of a chance of something wintry setting in through the second half of the month.

“There is a strong chance of widespread frosts and the chance of snowfall which will set the scene for November.

"This will pave the way for what is shaping up to be a colder than average winter with some extreme cold weather events.

But it seems as if the Met Office is not following the same train of thought and that October could - in fact - be slightly warmer than average.

And there is no suggestion at this stage there is likely to be a return of the Beast from the East.

A spokesman for the Met Office said there was "no sign" of any snowy weather so far, although conditions are looking quite unsettled in the next few weeks.

"Reports of snow in October did not come from us.

"In late October and early November, there will be some dry weather and frost - not anything out of the ordinary for this time of year.

"At the moment, the forecast for this time of year is warmer than average."

Although there is no snow on the horizon for October, people should brace themselves for some wet and windy weather.
