UK weather: Met Office forecasts the weather is starting to improve ahead of next week's heatwave

The weather is at last starting to improve as the UK looks ahead to the hottest day of the year so far.

The Mirror reports that the UK is in line for a seven-day heatwave from next week, and Bristol is forecast 28C heat on Wednesday.

According to the Met Office, rain will be clearing on most eastern parts of the UK on Sunday morning.

Most areas will then see a mixture of sunny spells and blustery showers, with these being heaviest in the northwest with a risk of thunder.

Looking at next week, it remains unsettled in the northwest with further locally heavy rain at times.

Other areas in the UK will be dry and increasingly warm and sunny. It will be hot in many eastern and southern areas by midweek.

This is the MET Office weather forecast for Bristol:

Sunday

Rain will clear eastwards through the early morning, leaving showers and sunny spells in its wake. Some showers will linger until the evening, but winds will steadily ease. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday

Plenty of sunshine and light winds, with temperatures increasing each day. Hot for some by mid-week.
