UK weather: Met Office forecasts 'dry and bright' weekend as downpours set to shrink

With flooding, thunderstorms, and seemingly endless rain, it's been a turbulent June so far weather-wise for much of the UK.

Just yesterday swathes of the country were under a Met Office weather warning, as storms and further downpours swept across the east of England.

Today, however, it looks as though conditions should start to settle - in Bristol we should be in for extended sunny spells and rain across the UK is set to become more and more isolated to the north, with a forecasts of a 'dry and bright' weekend ahead.

Here's a look at weather both closer to home and across the UK for Thursday:

How Bristol's weather will look like over the next 24 hours

It looks as though it'll be a sunny evening for Bristol (James Beck)

It's been a long time coming, but it looks as though we'll finally be in for some sunshine over the next 24 hours, with the threat of rain staying pretty remote throughout the day.

We're in for a very bright start, with sunny skies at 6am - followed by a short period of sunshine and slightly heavier cloud over the next two hours until 9am. Temperatures will be no lower than 13 degrees Celsius, and warming steadily throughout the early morning.

From 9am to 12pm we'll see light cloud and sunshine, and just a 10 per cent chance of precipitation.

Bristol should be treated to some beautiful sunshine over the lunch hour, with clear skies forecast from 1pm until 2pm.

The cloud will return from 2pm to 3pm, however from 4pm until sundown we should have clear skies and temperatures of between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius, making for a very pleasant evening.

The chance of rain will fall even further, so it's not likely you'll have to break out your umbrella any time soon.

Overnight it is likely to remain dry and clear, with Friday set to be sunny throughout.

What will the weather be like across the rest of the UK?

After weeks of turbulent weather, including recent widespread thunderstorms across much of the east of England, there are no official Met Office UK weather warnings currently in place for today.

There is a forecast of sunny spells and showers for much of the country, with a risk of thunder and brisk winds across the north and northwest. Conditions will generally feel fresher and less humid.

Looking towards the weekend, the Met Office are forecasting dry and bright conditions for many, with showers becoming confined to the north.

By Sunday however it will become very warm and humid across central and southern areas on Sunday - with conditions starting to become a little more unsettled in the southwest later on.
