UK Weather: Met Office forecasts a weekend of two halves

Britain will feel the first sweep of winter this weekend as a cold front brings rain and snow to western parts.

The forecast from the Met Office for Saturday and Sunday is that the weekend will be markedly different on one day to the next, but it will be "cold throughout".

A will mean fog in many places across the country on Saturday morning, but rain will build gradually from the South West, leading to a very wet day in the West Country and the Midlands.

There will even be hill snow in parts of Wales, as temperatures will struggle to get above 5C in many places.

The rain will continue across the country, petering out into showers as it reaches eastern parts on Saturday evening.

Sunday will be a much nicer day, but still noticeably chilly. It will be largely fine across most of the country, with long spells of sunshine.

But the wet and windy weather is set to return on Monday with the start of the week heralding blustery showers.
