UK weather: Met Office forecast after downpours hit country

After yesterday's heavy rain, most people will be jumping for joy at the news we should remain dry today (January 10).

Met Office forecasters say it is likely to be a cool yet rain-free morning, afternoon and night.

The temperature is tipped to be five degrees between 6am and 9am, rising to a high of eight degrees by 1pm.

Most significantly, though, the likelihood of rain has been pitched at a chance of 'below five percent'.

This will be welcomed by most residents after yesterday's downpours led to the temporary closure of two lanes on the M5 .

The sun should be out for much of the late morning, before playing hide-and-seek for a while. It will be partly cloudy at night, according to the Met Office.

The wind should not be very strong at any point during the day, mainly hovering around the 6mph mark.

As for the rest of the UK, the Met Office states: "Many areas fine with some sunshine, and not feeling too bad by afternoon in light winds.

"However northwestern areas clouding up, strong winds and heavy rain arriving later, continuing overnight."
