UK weather: Met Office extends area covered by rain warning as flooding 'likely'

The Met Office has extended the area covered by its weather warning for rain, so it just skims Bristol.

The warning is in place from midday today (November 22) until 6pm tomorrow.

The forecaster has said "flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely" and journey times on trains and on the road will probably take longer.

"Showers on Friday morning will be replaced by more persistent rain during the afternoon and evening," the warning reads.

"The rain will be heavy at times, lasting through much of Friday night and Saturday morning before slowly dying out during Saturday afternoon.

The area covered by the updated Met Office weather warning (Met Office)

"20 to 30 mm is likely to fall quite widely, and 40 to 50 mm may accumulate in a few places, most likely across the higher ground of south Devon."

Most of the South West is covered by the warning, as well as parts of South Wales.

Bristol weather forecast

In Bristol, the Met Office forecasts heavy rain between 12pm and 4pm today, when it will become lighter, before remaining dry until midnight.

It appears tomorrow is when the rain will truly hit the city, with downpours forecast from midnight until 5pm.

We should see better weather on Sunday. It should be dry until 9pm, when there is an 80% chance of heavy rain.
