UK Weather: Liverpool to be hit by heavy rain and thunder

Liverpool is set to be hit by heavy rain and thunder this week, as the Spring sunshine stays stubbornly away.

Last Saturday was a washout with heavy showers dominating the weather, with showers also falling on Sunday.

But people hoping for drier and warmer weather this week will have to wait as showers are forecast for every day this week in some form.

Temperatures remain in the low teens, but with the wind it could feel cooler, meaning people will still need to wear their jackets and carry their umbrellas.

Today should be fairly dry, but showers are forecast for the late afternoon, tomorrow should be dry in the morning, but rain will move in into the afternoon, with a rumble of thunder possible.

The rest of the week sees similar weather with dry spells and heavy showers forecast from Wednesday to Friday.

The Met Office forecast for the entire North West said: "Today, widespread showers will develop throughout the day, becoming less frequent towards dusk. Showers will be locally heavy in places, with the odd rumble of thunder likely. Moderate to fresh winds.

"Tonight, showers will ease to leave a dry night with extensive clear spells and just a few patches of cloud around. The odd light shower may drift in from the west towards dawn. Winds will lessen.

"Tomorrow, a scattering of showers will push eastwards through the morning. Showers will linger through the afternoon and be locally heavy for some, with the odd rumble of thunder expected in places.

"Wednesday will start largely cloudy with a few showers in places. It will be a less breezy day than previously. A few bright spells may develop in the afternoon.

"Thursday will see further showers or heavier outbreaks of rain, these heavy at times and potentially thundery. Friday is expected to have further showers throughout the day."
