UK Weather: Liverpool set for more rain and gales after bank holiday washout

Liverpool is set to see wet and windy conditions continue this week after torrential rain and gales hit Merseyside on Bank Holiday Monday.

People hoping for glorious weather for their day off were left disappointed today with the relentless rain making dining or drinking outside without shelter almost impossible.

The rain and wind is set to continue into the middle of the week, when things should finally start to brighten up.

Tuesday will see rain throughout the day, with gales of over 40mph forecast until early afternoon. Temperatures will remain on the cool side with only a high of ten degrees predicted.

Wednesday will see rain in the morning, but things should brighten up in the afternoon and the wind is also forecast to die down.

Thursday and Friday look to be brighter with sunny spells, but it will remain chilly with temperatures struggling in the low teens.

The Met Office forecast for the entire North West said: "This evening, the heaviest rain will move off to the east, but overnight there will be further outbreaks of rain for many and it will be cloudy. Staying quite windy with strong gusts at times.

"Tomorrow will be a mostly cloudy day, with frequent outbreaks of showery rain. The odd rumble of thunder is possible. Fresh northerly breezes through the day making it feel quite cool.

"Starting dry and sunny on Wednesday morning, but showers will blow in from the north later, turning wintry on some high ground at times. A chilly day.

"Thursday will be a similar day, but the showers may be heavier at times.

"A less chilly day on Friday, with plenty of sunshine to start. Showers will blow in from the west later, some of these heavy at times."
