UK weather: June heatwave bringing sunshine and 27C temperature 'all week long'

After a day-long blip in the recent summery weather Brits are set to enjoy blistering temperatures and beams of sunshine all week long.

Forecasters predict that while some northern regions will see spells of rain most of the country will bask in bright skies and hot temperatures.

And the Met Office say the weather will stay bright throughout the whole week, at least as far as the weekend, with the mercury set to reach highs of 27 C in some places

It comes after soaring temperatures and warmer weather cooked many parts of the UK all of last week as June got off to a balmy start.

Speaking of today's forecast Aidan McGivern from the Met Office said: "As we start off Tuesday we are going to see some mist and fog patches across sheltered parts of England and Wales.

"They quickly lift as the sun gets to work. And then for much of the southern half of the UK it's simply a sunny day and there will be bright weather in the north east as well at first.

"But on the whole the thickest cloud will be across northern areas."

He added that some light showers will appear in regions including western Scotland and the north west, but many areas would stay sunny particularly in the south.

High temperatures up to 26 C are forecast for Tuesday as the soaring heat of the past week continues.

On Wednesday Scotland will see some 'persistent rain' while the south and central parts of the UK will see sunshine and hot weather again.

Then the mercury is forecast to peak at about 27 C near London before turning 'even warmer' all the way towards the weekend, forecasters said.
