UK weather: It's not going to be a white Christmas but it will be dry

It looks like it's going to be a pretty wet Christmas week - but the rain is expected to hold off for Christmas Day.

Met Office forecasters have also said the chance of a White Christmas are pretty slim, with "temperatures expected to remain above average."

The rain is expected to start from today (Monday) with showers continuing in the west after a pretty wet weekend in places.

It will also be pretty windy in places particularly near the coast.

Areas of western Scotland will be hit with the worst of the weather on Monday, before the rain moves south during the day.

Christmas Eve is also looking pretty miserable with rain expected to fall over England and Wales on Tuesday turning showery throughout the day.

But so far it looks like Christmas Day will remain fairly dry with temperatures expected to drop throughout the day causing a night frost.

The perfect night for it as most people won't need to defrost their car the following morning.

However for those of you who enjoy a Boxing Day walk wellies and rain coats will be a must with the wet weather expected to return on Thursday.

Met Office weather forecast

Monday:

Showers continuing in the west, with coastal gales at first and more persistent rain for western Scotland. Showers and winds easing during the day, more rain later in the southwest.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Rain over England and Wales on Tuesday turning showery. Most places fine and dry on Christmas Day followed by night frost. Wind and rain probably spreading east on Boxing Day.
