UK weather: It's going to get a lot hotter this week as another heatwave moves in

After weeks of heavy rain and strong gusts battering the country you would be forgiven for believing the summer is well and truly over.

But don't pack away your sun cream or flip flops just yet. Experts are predicting the mercury is going to climb into the low 20s once again this week.

Wall to wall sunshine is expected in Bristol today (Tuesday) with temperatures hovering around 19C.

Things will get even better towards the end of the week with highs of around 25C are expected across most of southern England, according to our sister paper the Mirror.

Met Office forecaster Greg Dewhurst said: “There's an improvement after wet and windy weather, with plenty of sunny spells through the next week and 25C possible by the Bank Holiday weekend.

“Low pressure clears from Monday and high pressure slowly builds, with a southerly flow possible, with fewer showers in the South and East while the North and West remain less settled.

“High pressure looks like dominating in the last week of August, with mainly settled conditions and the mid-20s possible.”

His Met Office colleague Sarah Kent added: "August 31 to September 14 has signs high pressure will increasingly dominate. Temperatures are likely to be warmer than average."
