UK Weather: Hottest day of 2021 looms as temperatures could hit 30C this weekend

The UK will bask in glorious temperatures with Sunday forecast to be the hottest day of the year.

Met Office weather warnings for thunderstorms have plagued a changeable summer so far, with flash floods causing devastation across the country.

April and May were unseasonably wet and cold but June saw 2021’s temperatures peak at 28.6C at Heathrow Airport, London, on June 14.

London could see highs of 29C on Sunday at around 3pm.

These temperatures are expected to remain early next week, when Bristol could see the mercury hit 29C on Monday (July 19).

The Met Office states in its forecast from Sunday July 18-July 27: “This period will continue to be influenced by an area of high pressure slowly moving across the UK.

“It's expected to be widely dry with plenty of sunshine developing on Sunday, however cloudy with perhaps some rain at times across the Northern Isles. Following this, it's likely that we'll see a good deal of dry weather with plenty of sunshine, at least at first.

“Through this period there's an increasing risk of heavy showers and thunderstorms developing from the South and West.

“Temperatures will continue to be very warm at first, and perhaps locally hot in central and southern areas, before probably becoming somewhat cooler and fresher from the southwest later next week heralding a change to a more unsettled spell towards the end of July.
