UK weather: Hopes of nine-day 'Indian summer' mini heatwave next week

New long-range weather forecasts have raised hopes of a nine-day mini heatwave in the UK next week.

After three days of warm temperatures, weather conditions are turning unsettled from today, with showers expected around the country.

But according to BBC and Met Office forecasts, England may have one more mini heatwave to look forward to before autumn, My London reports.

The capital could experience temperatures over 20C from September 14 to September 22, forecasters have said.

Parts of the south and south-east are also expected to stay dry with sunny spells.

However, the Met Office said the north and north-west will experience more unsettled conditions, with rain and clouds.

The Met Office's long-range forecast says: "Settled and largely dry conditions are then expected to continue through the start of next week with variable cloud and some decent clear and sunny spells, although perhaps cloudier in the far north and northwest with rain at times."

Towards the end of September, conditions will become more unsettled with rainfall expected to be above average.

Temperatures, however, will remain above average, according to forecasters.

It comes as the Met Office issued three weather warnings covering most of the UK today.

A yellow warning for rain covers northern and eastern Scotland from 8pm today until 8am tomorrow.

There are also two yellow warnings for thunderstorms in western Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England and Wales.

Both warnings are in force from 10am today until 8pm, with people urged to stay safe in case of lightning and thunder.

The Met Office warned there is a risk that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

Tomorrow, the weather will be unsettled but warm, with cloud and heavy showers possible, forecasters said.

Saturday will be a mixture of sunshine and clouds for most areas, while Sunday will be more overcast.
