UK weather: Highs of 24C set to break 110-year record this Easter

Britain could see the hottest April 10 on record this Good Friday, as temperatures set to beat Ibiza with highs of 24C.

Experts believe today (Friday) will be hotter than the 23.3C record set in 1909 in Devon.

It will also be one of the warmest documented Good Fridays – close to the 26.9C record set in London when it fell later in the month on April 22, 2011.

While Ibiza will only see the mercury climb to 18C. Britain's Bank Holiday surge is due to an 800 mile-wide Canary Islands heat plume.

A weather map shows hot air blowing to Britain from the Canary Islands, off the coast of Africa.

The south will see long sunny spells and even the north will see 21C, with sunshine and showers, reports the Mirror.

Highs ease to 22C on Sunday and 20C on Monday, with showers and more cloud in the south and north on both days.

Police and council officials have urged people to stay home amid fears of residents meeting in parks and beaches and spreading coronavirus.

Met Office forecaster Nicola Maxey said: “Easter will certainly start warm and dry for many with heat coming from Africa via the Atlantic.

“24C is possible on Friday and Saturday. Sunday could see 22C, with up to 20C on Bank Holiday Monday.

“There will be long sunny spells for most on Friday and Saturday, but showers in the North will spread to the South from Sunday.

“Although temperatures will be above average, we urge people to remember Government guidelines and stay home."

In Bristol, residents will enjoy another day of uninterrupted sunshine with highs of 24C.

UK weather forecast
