UK weather: 'Heavy' showers will bring abrupt end to summer

Heavy showers will bring an abrupt end to summer in the South West, the Met Office's latest weather forecast suggests.

The region's five-day forecast mentions "plenty of warm sunny spells", but these could come to a damp end on Friday, as rain sweeps in. While temperatures will remain in the low 20s, there is no sign of another heatwave before the end of the month.

Overnight, conditions will be cool and clear - the sparse cloud cover allowing temperatures to drop in the evening. There may be some mist and foggy patches, but these will dissipate quickly when faced with a stiff breeze.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be fine days, filling with sunshine, but Friday will herald in some more unsettled conditions and an "increasing risk of showers".

In Bristol, the wet weather is forecast to hit on Saturday (September 3) with light showers predicted for the morning. Sunday will also be damp, with heavy rain arriving around 4pm and lasting into the evening.
