UK weather: Heavy rain to batter country before record-breaking 33C Bank Holiday weekend heatwave

Parts of the UK will be battered by heavy showers today before temperatures soar to a sizzling 33C this Bank Holiday weekend.

Rain will hit sections of Scotland and the northwest throughout Friday as the mercury hovers around 20C.

Experts at the Met Office said the southeast will experience the warmest weather throughout Friday,

This area is also expected to see the hottest temperatures over the Bank Holiday when the thermometer could climb to a sweltering 33C.

In Bristol, wall to wall sunshine is expected throughout the mini-break. Saturday is set to be the warmest day with highs of 29C.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Fog quickly by mid-morning (Friday).

"Heavy rain across northern Scotland slowly clearing northwards. Elsewhere, mainly fine and dry. Southern and eastern areas will see the best of the warm sunny spells."

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Mainly dry with warm sunny spells, particularly in the southeast where it will be hot. Cloudier and cooler in the northwest, with rain likely at times.
