UK weather: Heavy rain and chance of hail predicted by Met Office

Heavy rain is forecast for Bristol this morning (July 19) - as well as the chance of a hail shower later.

The Met Office expects a surprising twist to the summer weather enjoyed in recent days and weeks.

Heavy rain is predicted to begin at 5am and looks likely to continue until noon.

However, the most striking sight on the forecast chart is the 40 per cent chance of a hail shower at 2pm.

A dry spell is expected at around 5pm, but then rain could return around 6pm - 7pm.

After that, it looks likely to be dry until 11pm.

Temperature-wise, meanwhile, things look warmish throughout the day, reaching a high of 21 degrees at 4pm.

The weekend is thought to see sunshine and scattered showers on Saturday, but dry and sunny spells on Sunday. Monday is meant to be fine and sunny.

As for the rest of the UK today, the Met Office anticipates early rain across Wales and southwest England, spreading northeast to all but northern Scotland.

It should become brighter with some heavy showers following from the west. Further rain is expected into southern parts later.
