UK weather: Heatwave to end as Met Office warns of heavy rain and storms

The weekend saw the hottest bank holiday on record, with sizzling highs of 33C in some parts of the county.

Revellers made as a mad dash for the country's beaches, parks and rivers to enjoy the glorious sunshine.

But experts are predicting this latest bout of good weather will not last long.

Some parts of the country could face a fresh wave of storms as heavy rain moves in on Tuesday, August 27.

Met Office meteorologist Sarah Kent told our sister paper the Mirror: "Rain is starting to rear its head. It's a gradual change.

"While the south east will keep the best of the warm and sunny weather on Tuesday, with temperatures hitting 32C, elsewhere it's a different kettle of fish. Cloudier.

"It's going to be a wet. They say three hot days and then a thunderstorm and that's going to be true."

From Tuesday the heavens will break above the west of the UK, with the risk that clouds will break into lashing rain and thundery storms for the rest of the week.

Rain and storm warning issued

The Bristol forecast

Bristol should escape the worst of it, with heavy rain only predicted for one hour between noon to 1pm. The rest of the afternoon should be sunny with highs of 23C.

The Met Office says there will be 'light showers' changing to 'cloudy by lunchtime' on Tuesday. On Wednesday, August 28 the Met Office is forecasting a dry but cloudy start to the day before a rainy lunch-time and showers throughout the rest of the day.
