UK weather: 'Heatwave' disappointment as Bristol now forecast deluge of rain

Heavy rain is forecast in Bristol next week, after three days of scorching sunshine. Earlier this week the Met Office forecast showed Bristol would be hotter than Sicily this weekend before a deluge of rain which is predicted at the end of next week.

Warm conditions are still forecast in Bristol this month, but temperatures next week are now only expected to reach 22C rather than the 24C originally predicted. Any sunny weather will then be met with downpours - the worst of which will arrive on Friday (May 20).

As weather map WX charts shows, between three and five millimetres of rain is expected to fall next Friday. But thankfully, the showers should come to a blissful end just in time for the Queen's Jubilee weekend.

Heavy rainfall forecast for next week (WX Charts)

According to the Met Office, it will be a sunny weekend with a chance of showers on Sunday (May 15). Things are set to heat up at the start of next week, when temperatures reach the early 20s before rainfall is predicted.

The forecaster says: "Friday will be a dry day with some decent sunny spells across the region. Warm in the sunshine, although feeling a little cooler given the westerly breeze. Maximum temperature 18C."

Its prediction for the weekend reads: "A warm day on Saturday with long lived sunny spells for most. Cloudier at times on Sunday and Monday, perhaps with a few showers, although still some warm sunny spells."

UK long range forecast

The Met Office long range forecast for May 16 to May 25 reads: "Early in the week any showers in the far south and southeast are likely to quickly clear leaving most places fine and dry with sunny periods. Thicker cloud and outbreaks of rain are likely to spread to some northwestern areas later, with some breezier conditions in the west.

"Into the middle and end of the week there is likely going to be a southeast-northwest split, with the southeast experiencing generally drier, more settled weather. The northwest, however, will likely see some cloudier weather and showery rain, possibly heavy and thundery at times.

"Over the weekend and the beginning of the following week the more unsettled weather may spread further east. Widely warm or very warm throughout, perhaps hot in the south and southeast earlier in the period."
