UK weather: 'Hazardous' wind and snow chaos forecast in Storm Ciara aftermath

Hazardous levels of snow and ice are expected to hit parts of the UK today (February 12).

Experts at Met Office have said they could name another weather system this week with the next one expected to be called Storm Dennis.

Met Office meteorologist Bonnie Diamond said: "Storm Ciara has cleared but it is still windy. There is the risk of snow and ice depending on where you are.

"There is very much hazardous weather still around."

Yellow weather warnings for snow, ice and wind are in place until noon today, with snow already having been falling across the north Midlands and south Pennines this week.

A yellow alert for snow and ice warning covering  Northern Ireland and most of Scotland is in place until midday.

Forecasters said some areas could see blizzards with up to 20cm of snow, reports the Mirror.

In Bristol, residents should wake to a dry start but things will turn wet around 3pm when there's an 80 per cent chance of riain. However there is some good news as wind speeds will drop to just 13 mph and temperatures are expected to climb to a warmer 7C.

UK weather forecast

Wednesday:

Lighter winds and some sunshine for most, with showers fewer than on Tuesday, except in the far north, where further hill snow is expected. Rain into the south-west later.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Rain with some hill snow clearing east later Thursday. Dry, cold start on Friday before wind and rain crosses most parts. Very windy, wet conditions developing later Saturday. Turning milder.
