UK weather: Frosty mornings before mini heatwave hits

Large swathes of the UK will wake to a frosty morning today (Thursday) before temperatures soar this weekend.

Met Office forecaster Matthew Box said colder weather across the UK this week mixed with clear skies means "frosty mornings" for many.

By the weekend, the south east will see temperatures climb into the high teens and "more so on Sunday...we can see temperatures in the 20s", continued Mr Box.

But other areas, including parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland, will continue to be hit with outbreaks of rain.

"Next week it's looking like we will see the high pressure stay with us," Mr Box told the Mirror.

"So it does look like dry and fine weather from the 20th and beyond."

Sunshine is expected for most of today in Bristol, with highs of 14C. Friday will feel slightly warmer (15C) but clouds are likely to linger for majority of the weekend.

UK weather forecast

Thursday:

Rather cloudy with patchy rain in the north, while the odd light shower affects the extreme southeast. Elsewhere sunshine at times and with lighter winds it should feel somewhat warmer.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Across central and southern areas it will be dry with sunny spells. Further north it will often be cloudier with some rain or showers, especially in the northwest. Warming up.
