Britain will get some October sunshine to bask in tomorrow - before temperatures drop over the course of a "cold" weekend.
It will feel cold for many under clear skies on Thursday morning with patches of fog and frost, before the sun bursts through and brings warmer, pleasant weather for much of the country.
But the Met Office is warning that temperatures will fall by the evening, bringing frost in parts.
And a "rather cold" weekend lies ahead with chilly nights, and more overcast conditions spoiling the sunshine.
This comes before more unsettled weather next week brings more wind and rain, with temperatures in southern England dropping to 4C as late October brings more wintry weather.
Netweather forecaster Terry Scholey said northeasterly winds will continue to cause showers on Thursday, particularly for the Lincolnshire coast, East Anglia and the southeast.
But the north and west of England should remain fairly dry with bouts of sunshine.
Even so, the forecaster expects temperatures to remain on the chilly side.
He said: “But despite the sunshine, it'll probably turn out to be a colder day, with top temperatures mostly in the range 10 to 14C.”
Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said: “We keep an easterly breeze which will bring cold air our way.
“It’s not going to be a particularly warm day on Thursday and we will start off with a few frost and fog patches.”
Today:
Many areas dry with some sunny spells and probably feeling reasonably pleasant this afternoon, with lighter winds than yesterday, albeit slightly lower temperatures. Still a few showers scattered around, these focused in the east and southeast where still rather breezy.
Tonight:
Dry for many, with clear spells allowing a more widely chilly night with a touch of frost in places. The east often cloudier and less cold with the odd shower.
Friday:
Northeastern areas rather cloudy, with patchy drizzle especially on hills. A few showers for east and southeast England. Elsewhere largely dry: some sunshine, light winds and temperatures a touch higher.
Outlook for Saturday to Monday:
A few showers in places over weekend but largely dry with variable cloud, sunniest in the west. Rather cold with some chilly nights. Turning more unsettled and milder into Monday.
