UK weather: Forecasters predict nine-day mini-heatwave with highs of 20C

A nine-day mini-heatwave during which temperatures could soar to 20C has been predicted by experts. The Mirror reports that in less than a week's time, the heat will be turned up a few notches to bring dry and sunny weather to the UK.

Temperatures will start to heat up from May 5 when it is hoped it will get as warm as 20C. It will continue in the same dry and sunny pattern for some time.

The south-east and London will enjoy the hottest temperatures when the nine consecutive days of warmth will see the mercury reach around 18-20C. It's expected to be a balmy 18C on Thursday with a bit of cloud so expect the evenings to stay warm.

Things are only going to get better after that, hitting 19C in time for the weekend and then 20C over Saturday and Sunday. The mini-heatwave should continue during the following week and could go on for longer.

Not everywhere in the UK will benefit, however. In Scotland temperatures will remain a little cooler at around 15C and in the north of England, places such as Manchester will reach a respectable 17C, rising to 19C. Cardiff is expected to see temperatures of 19C throughout the nine days.

People enjoying the hot weather can expect a gentle breeze at best but there won't be much else to cool you down. So, get the shorts and sun cream ready, find your nearest beer garden, and get ready for a week of impeccable British sunshine.
