UK weather forecast: Chances of snow in your area as Brits wake to frost and ice

Brits all over the country are waking up to frost and ice as temperatures plummet across the UK.

Many regions will see rain turning heavy - and turning into snow today and into tomorrow.

Maximum temperatures are largely 5C or below.

People have already begun sharing their snow pictures as the white stuff blankets their cars and driveways.

North West England

After a frosty start on Monday, southernmost parts may see some wintry showers early on, these quickly clearing south leaving largely dry conditions.

The evening is likely to bring scattered, wintry showers to eastern parts, continuing overnight, while the west remains largely dry.

Clear skies overnight will bring widespread frost and icy patches, the Met Office says.

Tuesday will be a frosty start with some icy patches but a dry day for most with sunny spells.

North East England

Monday will be cold and generally dry and bright, but early icy patches will be slow to thaw.

Showers will push onto coasts later, with a risk of hail and thunder, maybe turning wintry inland.

The maximum temperature will be 3C.

Tonight remains showery, especially in the east with a continued risk of snow and ice.

On Tuesday the day will start with light winds and occasionally heavy showers along coastal parts, these perhaps wintry inland.

It will be frosty and icy overnight, with a risk of freezing fog patches.

East Midlands

Today will be cold and increasingly cloudy with outbreaks of rain pushing across western parts and hill snow likely.

There is also perhaps a risk of snow or ice at lower levels in the southwest as the day goes on, the Met Office says.

The maximum temperature will be 5C.

Tonight will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain overnight, turning to snow over higher ground.

Tuesday will see a showery start with light winds, and the showers could turn wintry inland.

Some sunny spells will develop and it will be frosty overnight.

West Midlands

Monday will be a wet morning, with rain heaviest across western parts and falling as sleet or snow in places.

These will clear by the afternoon, leaving largely dry conditions, although some isolated showers may remain.

Showers will return for the evening and night, heavy and wintry at times, especially over hills.

Tuesday will be a frosty start with some icy patches.

Scattered showers are also possible across the region through morning but it will be largely dry from around midday.

Further frost is likely overnight.

South West England

Monday will be a wet morning with showers which could be thundery.

These will move east across the region and fall as sleet or snow in places.

Further showers are likely for the afternoon, which will be heaviest over Cornwall.

The maximum temperature will be 8C.

Tuesday will also consist of showers which become heavy and wintry overnight.

On Monday night it will be drier and colder in the east where some frost and ice is possible.

On Tuesday it will be a frosty start for eastern areas.

Cornwall and Devon are likely to see showers, these turning locally wintry overnight.

London & South East England

On Monday there will be outbreaks of rain pushing southeastwards with hill snow likely.

There is also perhaps a risk of snow or ice at lower levels in the west later on.

The maximum temperature will be 5C.

Tonight there will be outbreaks of rain overnight, which could turn into snow over higher ground.

This will become cloudier towards dawn but still cold with a risk of ice.

Tuesday will be a showery start with light winds, these showers could be wintry. It will also be frosty overnight.

Wales

Monday will be a wet morning with showers, possibly thundery, moving southeast across the country and falling as sleet or snow in places.

It will be a drier afternoon for many but still feel cold with maximum temperatures at 6C.

Tonight will be a largely dry evening, though continuing showers are likely for western coasts.

Overnight, scattered showers are possible for most areas, which will be wintry at times.

Widespread frost and icy patches are likely.

Tuesday will be a frosty start for eastern areas, remaining largely dry all day.

Western coasts are likely to see showers, which will be heavy and wintry at times.

Northern Ireland

Monday will mainly be cloudy and rainy with maximum temperatures at 5C.

Tonight will largely continue with longer spells of rain.

Tuesday will stay cold with further showers.

Scotland and Scottish Highlands

Wintry showers could be heavy for western Scotland and the whole region will be frosty on Monday.

These wintry showers will turn heavy on Tuesday for western Scotland.

Southern Scotland will see the best of the sunshine.

The Scottish Highlands will be mainly dry, bright but cold. The western isles will see frequent showers, which will turn wintry inland.

Tonight there will be a widespread frost, with severe snow covering the highlands.

On Tuesday the showers will be wintry on hills.
