UK weather forecast: What Met Office has to say on reports snow could hit

It's the first week of British summer time but sadly experts are predicting the weather is about to take a turn for the worst.

With the nights becoming lighter and almost a week of uninterrupted sunshine, many might have started packing away their winter coats and turning off their heating.

But don't be too hasty, as forecasters say colder conditions -including some parts of the UK witnessing snow - is likely to hit later this week.

Bristol should escape the worst of the latest cold snap. as the mercury is expected to hover around 10C during the day and 2C overnight.

Fears high levels of air pollution could result in legal action for Bristol City Council

While mountainous areas of Scotland may see snow and other areas could witness frost at night, according to the Mirror.

Met Office forecaster Craig Snell said : "It's really a week of April showers, a mix of rain and some snow on the high ground and some hail.

"It's going to be a very different week to the week just gone."

Mr Snell said remote areas of Scotland and Wales could see temperatures fall to as low as - 5C at night, while temperatures in other areas will hover around freezing.

However, most of England and Wales will be dry and increasingly warm, with plenty of sunshine in the south and east later, the Met Office said.

Cloud, rain and strong winds will move into northern and northwestern areas during the day.
