Fears of tornados hitting Britain grow as the country is struck by 80mph hour winds which have already led to one death.
A four-day “Arctic blast” is set to slam Britain, bringing icy temperatures, gales and snow during Bonfire Night weekend.
This comes amidst fear that tornados could strike after wind and heavy rain battered the country over Halloween.
Winds were recorded as fast as 80mph in some areas of the south of England.
The Met Office could not confirm whether there will be tornados, but suggested they could be possible.
Meteorologist Tom Morgan said: "We’ve got a deep Atlantic area of low pressure that’s bringing a very heavy band of rain and squalling winds across the whole of the country, but particularly in the south of England.
"We’ve seen some very strong gusts of wind on the south coast… and a few reports of damage from the winds.
"It’s not out of the question that there will have been some localised, brief funnel clouds or tornadoes.
"In the last couple of days we have seen some reports and seen some photos of funnel clouds and water spouts, which are similar to tornadoes."
Dorset saw wind speeds of 87mph, and 60mph in locations across Hampshire, Wiltshire and Sussex.
Mr Morgan added: “We can’t confirm that there have been any (tornadoes) but we have seen reports of wind damage.
“This kind of situation does lend itself to sometimes producing tornadoes so it’s something we can’t rule out and there is some evidence to suggest there have been some."
These fears come as this week, temperatures are set to plummet with nights reaching freezing.
Britain will have little respite from the extreme weather as Bonfire night is expected to be hit by heavy rain and strong winds.
Snow flurries could even hit the ground in areas of the north and Scotland.

The Met Office say it will be a drier week, with temperatures barely climbing above 12C.
Monday will bring sunshine and showers for much of the UK, with weather then turning drier and colder on Tuesday into the week.
Night temperatures could fall into freezing, below 0C, with frost expected.
There has been widespread disruption to travel due to weather the past weekend, and one man died when his car spun off the road at around 1am Sunday morning.
Humberside Police appealed for any witnesses to get in touch after the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
