UK weather forecast: Three days of October sunshine to raise temperatures to 15C

Britain will bask in some late October sunshine and being battered by weeks of washout weather .

Temperatures will hit 15C in the next few days as many parts of the country enjoy clear and sunny spells.

It will mark a stark contrast to the first half of the month where miserable weather has led to flood warnings over successive days.

The Met Office forecasts Sunday to be a largely sunny day with maximums of 14C and the chance of a few showers in the far southwest.

The drier conditions will then continue into Monday where outbreaks of rain in the east will again give way to spells of fine weather and 15C highs.

Tuesday again will remain sunny  in the south with only the odd shower, while the north will experience more cloudy and windy weather.

Meanwhile, temperatures will fall at night with frosts expected in Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England.

A Met Office spokesperson told Sun Online: "It could be a rather unsettled week, although not as wet as last week.

"From Monday, most areas will be dry apart from patches of rain in the south east.

"It will be the same on Tuesday and wednesday, but rain will move across to the North West."

According to some longer term forecasts, the UK is set for a .

AccuWeather meteorologist Tyler Roys said: "Many cities will receive above-normal rainfall this winter, including Cardiff, London, Bristol, Manchester, Glasgow and Belfast, but we are not calling for record-breaking rainfall.

The drier conditions will last until Tuesday (PA)

"Through early January is going to be the most active.

"But there will be times in the later half of winter in which it will be on the quieter side, then get stormy for a couple of days, then transition back to a quieter period."

Today:

Early fog clearing, to bright and sunny spells. Chance of a few showers mainly on windward coastal areas in far southwest. Cloudier in the north, perhaps with a little rain at first, before becoming brighter with a few showers.

Tonight:

Rain over parts of Kent and East Anglia. Otherwise mainly dry with some clear spells. Cold with frost in Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England. A few fog patches possible.

Monday:

Mainly dry with sunny spells. Showers for eastern England, with rain in the southeast for a time. Cloud increasing in far north with rain and coastal gales likely later.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Windy and cloudy with some rain in the north, heavy at times in western Scotland. Mostly dry in the south with chilly nights and fog patches early and late.
